NextEra Energy Transmission has been awarded the Wolf Creek-Blackberry transmission line project, which runs from Kansas to Missouri, by the Southwest Power Pool (SPP).
The SPP Board of Directors approved a recommendation by an industry expert panel (IEP) to award the project to NextEra Energy Transmission, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy. The Wolf Creek-Blackberry project is a 94-mile, 345-kilovolt transmission line that runs from the Wolf Creek substation in Kansas to the Blackberry substation in Missouri.
“We are pleased to have been awarded the Wolf Creek-Blackberry project by SPP,” Eric Gleason, president of NextEra Energy Transmission, said. “This project award furthers our goal of creating America’s leading competitive transmission company and is consistent with our strategy of adding high-quality regulated assets to our portfolio.”
The project still requires regulatory approval in both Kansas and Missouri. However, if all the necessary approvals are granted, the project is expected to be online in January 2025.
