The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) selected Brian Parks this week as the new resident inspector at the River Bend Station nuclear power plant in St. Francisville, Louisiana.
“Brian Parks’ breadth of technical and regulatory experience will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission to protect
people and the environment by ensuring the continued safe operation of River Bend,” NRC Region IV Administrator Kriss
Kennedy said.
Parks joins Senior Resident Inspector Jeff Sowa at the River Bend Station facility.
In 2011, Parks joined the NRC’s Region IV office in Arlington, Texas. He worked as a project engineer in the Division of Nuclear Reactors and served in multiple acting resident inspector positions.
Prior to his work with the NRC, he served as a U.S. Navy submarine officer aboard the USS West Virginia. Parks earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a bachelor’s in philosophy from Vanderbilt University.
Each commercial nuclear power plant in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who conduct reviews, monitor important work projects and interact with plant workers and the public.
