In its latest draft Request for Proposals (RFP), Georgia Power announced that it would seek 1,030 MW of new utility-scale renewable resources to be brought online in 2023 and 2025.
Through a competitive bidding process to open in the first quarter of 2022, the company will pursue its second utility scale renewable solicitation linked to its 2019 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). That IRP should lead to 2,000 MW of procured, utility scale renewables. For this segment, Georgia Power specifically seeks resources of greater than 3 MW located within the continental United States.
Both energy-only and renewable-coupled storage projects are eligible.
“Renewable energy is thriving in Georgia, and we are excited to launch this RFP to allow us to review and select projects that will provide the most value to our customers,” Wilson Mallard, director of Renewable Development for Georgia Power, said. “Georgia Power has worked closely with the Georgia Public Service Commission to grow the amount of renewable energy supplying our customers in Georgia, and we are eager to implement the next phase of competitive RFPs to procure additional economic renewable resources for our diverse generation mix.”
The company currently utilizes more than 2,700 MW of renewable capacity and has another 2,700 MW planned for service by the end of 2024.
Accion Group, Inc. will serve as Independent Evaluator for the latest RFP.
