Dominion Energy report shows renewables development, clean energy technologies and major emissions reductions

In its latest sustainability report, published this week, Dominion Energy noted that 2020 brought major green advancements for it, from developing the largest United States offshore wind project to upgrading its grids, cutting emissions, and more.

Currently, the company is developing the largest offshore wind project on the U.S. side of the Atlantic, making it a major player in the development of wind power. At the same time, it noted that it now owns one of the country’s largest solar portfolios and is spreading investments around storage, hydrogen, and other clean energy technologies. Currently, it’s also sponsoring the largest renewable natural gas initiative in the United States.

“We aspire to be the most sustainable energy company in the country,” Robert Blue, Dominion Energy chair, president and CEO, said. “We’re hitting the right milestones on the way to that goal: developing clean, renewable energy and storage; building a more diverse workforce and supply chain; improving safety; and investing in our communities to make sure no one is left behind.”

However, achieving all of this requires a supportive infrastructure. To that end, Dominion has also poured funds into grid updates, readying the network for renewable energy and improving its reliability. These efforts are already paying off, as well. The company has decreased its carbon emissions by 43 percent since 2005 while cutting methane emissions by 32 percent since 2010. It has also reduced its water consumption per megawatt hour by 49 percent since the turn of the century.

All of this, Dominion maintained, sets it on a solid path to net zero carbon and methane emissions by 2050.
