ComEd customers saved $6B through energy efficiency program

A new report from Illinois-based ComEd credited its energy efficiency program with saving customers more than $6 billion on energy bills since 2008 and enough energy to power more than 6.5 million homes for a year.

Importantly, as a green effort, it also cut more than 61 billion pounds of carbon emissions from entering the air, meaning it had the equivalent effect of removing more than 6 million cars from the road for a whole year. This was thanks to enrollment by residents, businesses and the public sector alike.

“ComEd remains committed to safely delivering the clean, reliable and affordable energy our families, communities and businesses depend on to power their lives,” Erica Borggren, vice president of customer solutions at ComEd, said. “For over 13 years, our energy efficiency offerings have empowered residential and business customers to take control of their energy use, while helping hard-working families — many facing economic hardships — to reduce their electric bills and save money.”

For businesses and the public sector, this program includes free assessments, lists of case studies and a way to locate energy efficiency service providers. It also provides incentives for lighting, HVAC, refrigeration and more. Such assessments are also available on the residential side, along with rebates and discounts for various appliances, lighting, smart devices and other more efficient products.
