Idaho Power seeking approval for large-load special contract
Idaho Power is seeking approval to provide energy service to a potential new, large-load customer via a special contract.
The special contract is related to the customer’s plan to build and operate an enterprise data center in Idaho. The request was filed recently with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (IPUC).
All customers that seek more than 20 megawatts (MW) of power require a special contract detailing their energy service agreement and associated pricing. The IPUC must approve each special contract. In this case, the customer plans to support 100 percent of its operations by adding new renewable resources connected to Idaho Power’s system.
This special contract proposal uses the framework for large power customers outlined in the proposal via the Clean Energy Your Way program. This program provides an expanded suite of options to help Idaho Power customers meet their clean energy goals. One element is a construction option, which would allow customers to work with Idaho Power to procure new renewable resources and integrate them into the grid.
This proposed special contract would represent the first example of the construction offering, which will be expanded to interested large power service customers upon IPUC approval.
Idaho Power, headquartered in Boise, serves more than 600,000 customers in Idaho and Oregon. The company has a goal to provide 100 percent clean energy by 2045.
