In the past year, ComEd has helped complete the construction of six data centers for northern Illinois, including its most recent partnership with Skybox Datacenters, expanding the region’s digital infrastructure and benefiting its competitive energy market.

For Skybox, the new facility in Elk Grove Village is its first location in Illinois. For others, it will help meet commercial data needs for the area. On ComEd’s side, it represents another piece in an investment portfolio of more than $2 billion, the culmination of a six-month construction effort and the beneficiary of a two-tiered service plan based on competitive energy.

“ComEd is proud to electrify new data centers throughout the region which create jobs and generate investment for the communities we serve,” Gil Quiniones, CEO of ComEd, said. “With their first Illinois data center, Skybox is the latest example of companies investing in Northern Illinois due to affordable rates, access to clean energy, and unparalleled reliability.”

The new facility will bring at least 20 full-time positions and represent a joint venture between Skybox and logistics real estate company Prologis Inc. It is a 30 MW facility that could foster high-tech business development and innovation efforts.

“Skybox is thrilled to launch our newest data center facility in Elk Grove Village, which offers innovative, sustainable, and adaptable turn-key and powered shell solutions that will benefit our enterprise and hyperscale customers in Chicago and across the country,” Rob Morris, CEO of Skybox, said. “This project delivers the scale and the speed our clients need to be competitive in today’s economy – and would not be possible without support of ComEd and its continued focus on reliable, sustainable access to support the thriving data center ecosystem in this region.”

In support of this and other potential constructions, ComEd continues to invest in grid reliability for the region. It has also benefited from an energy supply market with costs significantly lower than other comparable urban metro regions.
