Ameren Missouri to acquire 150 MW solar facility

Ameren Missouri is acquiring a 150-megawatt solar facility being developed in southeastern Illinois from Invenergy, a developer of sustainable energy solutions.

“We’re entering the next phase of our clean energy transition while continuing to serve our customers with reliable, affordable energy,” Mark Birk, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri, which is a subsidiary of Ameren Corp.

This project aligns with the company’s renewable energy goals in its 2020 Integrated Resource Plan, including its plan to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Officials said it would also help customers reach their own clean energy goals.

“This is another important step in demonstrating the company’s commitment to clean energy and achieving our net-zero carbon emissions goal,” Ajay Arora, chief renewable development officer at Ameren Missouri, said.

The deal is subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. With timely regulatory approvals, the project could begin generating clean energy as soon as 2024.

Ameren Missouri provides energy for 1.2 million electric and 132,000 natural gas customers in central and eastern Missouri. The company’s service area covers 64 counties and more than 500 communities, including the greater St. Louis area. It has been around for more than 100 years and has electric rates among the nation’s lowest.
