Dominion Energy kicks off CarbonRight program to offset customers’ carbon emissions
As of this week, customers of Dominion Energy in Utah and Idaho can sign up for the new CarbonRight program, a corporate program to help customers reduce their carbon footprint from natural gas use by supporting projects to reduce emissions.
An entirely voluntary program, CarbonRight allows residential, business, governmental and academic customers to purchase carbon offsets in $5 blocks applied to their monthly bill. For example, a typical residential customer could offset their entire carbon footprint with a single $5 block purchase per month. All offsets will stem from projects to reduce landfill carbon emissions in Utah and Missouri or from a forest management and emissions capture project in Minnesota.
“Our customers are looking for ways to have a positive impact on the environment,” Steven Ridge, vice president and general manager of Dominion Energy Utah, said. “We share their passion, and we’re excited to deliver with this exciting new program. Our customers can now have more peace of mind knowing that their energy dollars are being spent to protect the environment.”
Dominion declared that it earns no profit from the program and certifies offsets independently. The program, which is available online, by mobile app, or by phone through Dominion Energy Utah, is also meant as a complement to other Dominion carbon reduction projects, such as the ThermWise energy conservation project, the GreenTherm renewable natural gas project, and greenhouse gas emissions reduction project, and more.
