Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) will invest $38 million into rebuilding miles of power lines, replacing wire, and upgrading a substation in northeast Indiana through the recently announced East Allen County Transmission Line Project.

Approximately 12 miles of aging structure and power lines from outside Fort Wayne, Ind., to the Sowers Substation off the Ohio-Indiana State Line Road in Scipio Township will see aging wooden H-frame structures from the 1960s replaced with modern steel poles. This effort will focus on enhancing operational performance, reducing the potential of long power outages, and improving electric reliability in the region.

In addition, approximately 6 miles of wire on existing structures between Robison Park Substation in St. Joseph Township and Ricker Road in Milan Township will be replaced, while the Grabill Substation in Cedar Creek Township will be upgraded. All of this will begin in the spring of 2024.

Currently, the project is slated for completion by sometime in fall 2025.
