OG&E issues RFP for flexible resource generation facility

Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company (OG&E) issued a Request for Proposals for new flexible resource generation facilities.

In April, OG&E issued a draft RFP. This final RFP requires a capacity between 50 and 500MW of nameplate capacity per bid, and the bid may represent multiple generation facilities at a site to meet the minimum requirement. OG&E requires the capacity to be available to satisfy OG&E’s resource adequacy obligations starting May 1, 2027 but maintains a preference for project in service as early as possible.

OG&E also requires the projects to be located within SPP in Oklahoma or Arkansas, with a preference for OG&E’s service territory. The project must be capable of at least 4 hours of consecutive run time at a minimum and maximum capacity and have the minimum ability to start multiple times each day within 15 minutes of initiation and a minimum up-time of no more than one hour. Other requirements include a maximum downtime between cycles of no more than an hour. Both single bids and combination bids are allowed.

Notice of intent to bid is due Sept. 8, with the deadline to submit a bid being Sept. 15.

OG&E is Oklahoma’s largest electric utility, providing service to approximately 882,000 customers. The company has 7,207 MW of electric generation capacity fueled by natural gas, wind, low-sulfur coal, and solar power.
