Ameren Missouri expands Clean Slate fund with additional $1M in assistance
As a means of helping certain moderate-income customers clear past-due balances, Ameren Missouri announced this week that it is expanding eligibility and funding available to its Clean Slate program with $1 million additional assistance.
Customers now need to pay 10 percent of their past-due balance, down from a 25 percent previous requirement. Clean Slate covers the rest. Applicants can now include households up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level – an annual income of $38,640 for a single-person household, or up to $133,980 for a household of eight. Past due accounts or those on either payment agreements or in need of reconnection are eligible.
“The Clean Slate program has been highly effective, helping thousands of families who often don’t qualify for state and federal assistance,” Tara Oglesby, vice president of customer experience for Ameren Missouri, said. “We are excited to donate this additional $1 million to offer more customers a path to get back on track. We hope to alleviate some of the financial strain many families are currently navigating while helping them stay cool and safe in the summer heat.”
Ameren Missouri had pledged more than $5.4 million to the program. A new fund also opened within Clean Slate earlier this year, specifically for natural gas customers. The program is meant as a supplement to community assistance, as well as other programs within Ameren Missouri itself, such as Keeping Current, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and the income-eligible Weatherization program.
