To attract fresh talent to the natural gas and oil industry, the American Petroleum Institute (API) this week announced the Energy for Veterans initiative that will encourage veterans and transitioning service members to obtain professional credentials.
Approved for GI Bill Funding by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Web Enabled Approval Management System (WEAMs), this initiative will allow veterans to pursue API’s Individual Certification Programs. These programs train inspectors through 21 separate certifications applying to various segments of the industry and its affiliates. As a result, anyone qualified for the GI Bill can use those funds to reimburse test fees associated with ICP certifications.
“Service members and veterans have a distinguished record of serving our country, both at home and abroad. Through their experience, they have developed skills that make them ideal candidates to launch careers in the natural gas and oil industry where their efforts will help to ensure America’s energy security for decades to come,” Anchal Liddar, senior vice president of API Global Industry Services, said. “Our industry is one of the most veteran-friendly in the country and is committed to helping our veterans as they transition to civilian life and look to build a strong financial future for themselves and their families.”
API also announced that it intends to create additional programs and tools focused on veterans.
