The Wyoming Public Service Commission approved a certificate of public convenience and necessity for Black Hills Energy’s – a subsidiary of Black Hills Corp. – Ready Wyoming project this week, clearing the way for a $260 million transmission expansion project.

Expected to begin in 2023, the project will span multiple phases and 260 miles. As the demand of Wyoming residents grows, the project is anticipated to provide long-term price stability and improve the resiliency of the area’s electric system. It will also expand users’ access to other power markets and renewable energy resources.

“We’re pleased with the Wyoming commission’s unanimous approval of a settlement agreement to proceed with the project and appreciate the collaboration with the parties in the process,” Linn Evans, president and CEO of Black Hills Corp, said. “We look forward to ongoing engagement with landowners and other stakeholders for Ready Wyoming, a vital project that will provide long-term benefits to our Wyoming customers and communities.”

Ultimately expected to enter service in 2025, Black Hills Corp. estimated the project to generate more than $100 million in economic benefit for the state.
