Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) and its customers continue to reap the benefits of its multi-year customer relief and energy infrastructure investment plan.

The plan, approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) in December 2020, continues to provide improvements to the electric and natural gas systems for BGE’s 1.3 million electric customers and more than 680,000 natural gas customers in central Maryland.

The energy infrastructure investment plan includes more than 300 projects and maintenance programs for the period 2021-2023. Among them, the company made grid enhancements; installed smart automation equipment to quickly identify damage to the electric grid and reduce outages; replace outmoded technologies; developed solar energy and electric vehicle charging infrastructure; and conducted tree trimming and vegetation management along power lines. The firm also replaced outmoded natural gas pipeline segments using modern technologies and installing over-pressurization protection equipment.

Through these and other enhancements over the past decade, BGE has seen outages decline by 45 percent.

This month, due to rate adjustments, the average residential electric bill will increase by $2.97 per month. Further, the average residential natural gas bill will increase by $3.08 per month. BGE offers bill Payment Assistance and Payment Arrangements for customers that may have difficulties facing increased utility bills.
