Entergy Texas announced Tuesday it had launched its Green Select Program, an opt-in program allowing residential and business customers to match some or all of their electricity usage with renewable energy.

The no-commitment plan allows customers to enroll 25 percent, 50 percent, or 100 percent of their monthly electric usage through renewable energy certificates (RECs), representing the environmental attributes of renewable electricity generation, such as wind and solar. The program would offer customers affordable options to achieve environmental sustainability goals, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, officials said.

“Green Select provides our customers another tool to help reduce their carbon footprint,” said Blake Flowers, manager of products and services deployment. “Our communities are increasingly asking us for clean-energy offerings, and this program will help our customers meet those goals in helping sustain a bright future for southeast Texas.”

The plan does not require a long-term commitment, officials said, and has no start-up fees, no credit check, and no maintenance, operational, or insurance costs. The plan supports Entergy Texas’ commitment to providing affordable and sustainable energy, the company said. Recently, the company also issued a request for a proposal for 2,000 megawatts of solar and wind generation resources to provide cost-effective energy to its customers while maintaining its supply, capacity, and fuel diversity, the company said.

Entergy Texas serves nearly 500,000 customers in 27 Texas counties. Entergy Texas is a subsidiary of New Orleans-based Entergy Corporation, which provides power to more than 3 million customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
