Enel Green Power sets record for renewable energy capacity in 2022

Enel Green Power set a record last year by adding 5,223 MW of new renewable energy capacity.

The company added 80 plants, mainly solar, which accounted for 2,622 MW of power. They also added 2,160 MW of wind power and 387 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS).

In addition, Enel Green Power (EGP) set a record for new renewable capacity under construction. As of Dec. 31, the company had 67 plants for a total of approximately 7,200 MW under construction. This includes 900 MW of BESS.

Further, EGP set a record for energy generated annually from renewable sources, with about 124 TWh in total. Of that amount, about 65.9 TWh came from wind and solar — up by 10.5 TWh compared to 2021. Meanwhile, 52 TWh came from hydro, while 6 TWh from geothermal.

Finally, EGP has a record number of projects in the pipeline under development. Specifically, the company has 455 GW of capacity in development, including renewable energy plants and BESS. That is up about 24 percent over the previous year’s figures.

“In 2022, Enel Green Power reaffirmed its position as a global leader in the renewable segment. Despite all the challenges we faced this last year, which was marked by geopolitical conflicts and a worsening macroeconomic environment, we are continuing to grow with the ambitious goal of reaching 75 GW of renewable capacity and battery energy storage systems by 2025 while keeping a strong focus on safety, people and the environment in which our plants are located,” Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of EGP, said.

Of the new capacity, 1,985 MW is in North America, mainly in the United States, while 1,364 MW is in Latin America, mainly in Chile and Brazil. Also, 1,137 MW is in Europe, mainly in Italy and Spain, while 737 MW is in Africa, Asia, and Oceania.
