Oracle Corporation introduced Oracle Utilities Operational Device Cloud Service (ODCS), a cloud-based solution that helps utilities manage their smart grid assets and connected devices.
OCDS collects data through automated processes, monitor the age and reliability of devices, as well as adjust, repair and update smart grid and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
The solution can be used as a stand-alone product or added to Oracle Utilities Work and Asset Cloud
Service and Oracle Utilities Meter Data Analytics Cloud Service depending on a utility’s needs.
More than 70 million smart meters have been installed in the United States and more utilities are utilizing technologies such as smart field sensors. The increasing use of distributed energy resources and IoT devices is changing the way utilities operate. Smart devices differ in their maintenance, inspection and security requirements presenting new challenges to the industry.
“We’re in front of the dramatic shifts the utilities industry is experiencing, providing new technologies that meet the needs of our customers as they navigate this changing landscape,” Rodger Smith, general manager and senior vice president for Oracle Utilities, said. “We’re committed to innovation, and to providing cloud solutions that make operational excellence a reality for electric, gas and water utilities worldwide.”
