Through its Five Points to Erath project, Entergy Louisiana completed more than five miles of power line upgrades in Acadiana this February, bringing $15 million of resilience updates to customers in Abbeville and Erath, La.

“The Five Points to Erath transmission project is another example of work aimed at building a more reliable and stronger, more resilient electric system for residents and businesses in Louisiana,” Entergy Louisiana President and CEO Phillip May said. “We’re dedicated to providing clean, reliable, and affordable power to all customers no matter where they are, including those near the Gulf Coast.”

Planning for the project kicked off in 2019. The new equipment constructed and energized this year included general upgrades to the system, as well as replacements of wood and concrete structures with new insulators and steel structures capable of withstanding winds of up to 150 mph. New power lines were added to increase the area’s electric capacity, backed by additional switching capability to improve rerouting and restoration capabilities.

This should strengthen the overall line segment and build reliability and resilience near the Gulf Coast.
