Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) announced Monday it would begin a construction project to improve reliability in Shreveport, La.

The reliability project would span an estimated 2 miles from the substation in South Shreveport on La Highway 3132, up along Linwood Avenue to Flournoy Lucas Road. SWEPCO crews and contracted partners will replace nearly 90 poles while upgrading distribution lines by increasing wire size, the company said.

“We’re pleased to move forward with this important investment for our customers to ensure improved reliability,” SWEPCO President and COO Brett Mattison said.”

The company said the project will increase capacity and improve reliability for homeowners south of the Shreveport substation. With work already underway, the company said construction will continue for several months, weather permitting. Crews are working at optimal times to not interfere with school schedules, the company said, and work near Calvary Baptist Academy is scheduled for May when school is no longer in session.

Residents can, however, expect temporary lane closures, traffic delays, and pre-planned outages. Customers will receive communication before any outages, the company said.

Headquartered in Shreveport, SWEPCO is an American Electric Power company that provides services to more than 551,000 customers in Northwest and Central Louisiana, Northeast Texas and the Texas Panhandle, and Western Arkansas.
