Rep. Castor introduces package of clean energy bills
In honor of Earth Day, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) announced Wednesday that she was reintroducing three clean energy bills.
Castor, the former chair of the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, said the bills would boost access to solar energy and help Americans power their homes with clean energy. The bills, she said, would connect families and businesses with clean energy tax credits that are part of the Inflation Reduction Act and help with the transition to clean energy.
“Expanding access to affordable, clean energy will save families money on their utility bills, create jobs in communities across America, reduce pollution, and improve public health across the board. Extreme MAGA Republicans in D.C. want to take away the benefits of the transition to cleaner, cheaper energy sources that are being made more accessible than ever by the new tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act. My new bills will only smooth the path towards solar and other renewable energy sources,” Castor said. “Let’s act now to improve our electric grid, cut the cost of electric bills, and harness the power of the sun here in the Sunshine State and across the nation.”
The bills, the Community Solar Consumer Choice Act, the Efficient Grid Interconnection Act, and the Enhancing Electric Grid Resilience Act, will help lower costs for consumers and help companies and consumers transition to cleaner, cheaper energy.
According to Castor’s office, the Community Solar Consumer Choice Act increases access to solar energy by allowing community members to jointly benefit from the energy produced by shared solar infrastructure. The Efficient Grid Interconnection Act will reduce transmission congestion and connect more low-cost renewable energy to the electric grid, which will help families transition to clean energy. And the Enhancing Electric Grid Resilience Act will improve the national electric grid, expand access to clean energy and cut electric bills.
