According to an independent evaluation of ComEd’s Energy Efficiency Program, the utility successfully helped save customers more than 11 million MW hours of electricity last year, equating to nearly $1.3 billion saved on electric bills.

These were the findings from the consultant firm Guidehouse, which provided the annual evaluation and also found that beneficial electrification measures enabled by the Climate and Equitable Jobs (CEJA) helped customers save more than 12,000 additional MW hours of energy. ComEd’s own energy efficiency program rolled out electrification measures supporting replacements of technologies that use fossil fuels as a result of CEJA beginning last year.

As a result, ComEd residential and business customers were presented with more than $250 million in incentives, including rebates and discounts. The company also installed free energy-efficiency products for more than 33,000 homeowners and tenants. For business customers, ComEd’s efforts saved more than 896,000 MW hours of electricity – a nearly $80 million savings.

“ComEd is committed to helping customers manage their energy use and bills, and this latest evaluation illustrates that our energy-efficiency offerings directly translate into savings for participating customers,” Erica Borggren, vice president of customer solutions for ComEd, said. “As technologies and energy needs change and grow, we will continue to introduce new offerings and promote existing programs that give customers the power to manage their energy use and save money.”

In total, it’s estimated the efficiency program has saved ComEd customers more than $7.6 billion since its creation in 2008. Over that same period, it helped them save more than 70 million net MW hours of electricity – enough power to provide for more than 8 million customers’ homes in its own right.
