MidAmerican Energy Company recently filed with the Iowa Utilities Board for the approval of a program that would allow MidAmerican’s customers to claim the renewable energy they use in the state to meet sustainability goals.

If approved, the MidAmerican Energy GreenAdvantage program would allow customers to claim
47 percent renewable energy use in 2016. This percentage is expected to grow year over year as MidAmerican completes the $3.6 billion Wind XI project.

The company plans to expand its use of renewables even further. In 2016, it announced its 100%
Renewable Vision.

“MidAmerican Energy GreenAdvantage is an important part of our 100% Renewable Vision that we announced in 2016,” Bill Fehrman, president and CEO of MidAmerican Energy Company, said. “For years we have been developing wind to serve our Iowa customers. This program takes our vision one step further by sharing with customers the benefits of the green energy they use.”

As part of the GreenAdvantage program, MidAmerican asked the board to verify its percentage of production from renewable energy sources. This will allow the company’s business companies to promote their clean energy usage.

“People want to work for, invest in and do business with environmentally responsible organizations,” Fehrman said. “MidAmerican Energy provides the renewable energy those organizations can use to meet their goals with a verified, smart, efficient way to evaluate and promote their practices.”
