More than 600 solar panels have been installed at Ameren Missouri’s Jefferson District Operating Center in House Springs.

The energy generated by the panels will be put on the grid for the entire community to utilize. This initiative is part of the company’s plan to enhance reliability and provide smarter energy infrastructure across the state.

“Solar installments such as this one in Jefferson County are important because they are helping us build up a more diverse energy portfolio for our customers,” Tim Schulz, Ameren Missouri’s project manager who oversaw the installation, said. “Bringing a variety of energy generation sources online helps us strengthen the grid and improve reliability for customers.”

The House Springs location is a solar parking lot canopy. It is the sixth such parking canopy built by Ameren Missouri’s Neighborhood Solar Program as part of its Smart Energy Plan.

To provide the Neighborhood Solar Program, Ameren Missouri has partnered with organizations across the state to install and maintain solar arrays on their parking lots. This enables them to participate in generating renewable energy without any cost to the organization.

These locations are helping Ameren Missouri grow renewable energy generation across the state as it strives to meet its commitment to have net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. Further, these sites have served as workforce development opportunities and ongoing educational opportunities for school tours during construction and operation.

The House Springs site is expected to generate enough energy to power approximately 27 homes every year.
