Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois selected to lead MISO transmission project for Missouri
As a result of its designs and lower cost projections, Ameren Corporation subsidiary Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois (ATXI) was awarded an $84 million contract for a northwest Missouri transmission project under the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO).
At 42 miles long, the line is part of an effort by the regional grid operator to provide new paths for energy transmission in the region. It’s part of a larger, $10 billion portfolio planned under MISO’s Long Range Transmission Plan (LRTP), but as an individual project, it should be operational by 2030.
“This project will bolster grid resiliency and energy reliability for Missourians,” Shawn Schukar, president of ATXI, said. “We are proud to have won this project as a result of a collaborative effort with many community partners who have the best interests of our state in mind. We are committed to working with these partners, who are also our neighbors, to build transmission lines affordably with robust input from local communities.”
ATXI will run the project in partnership with the Missouri Electric Commission. From a starting point at a new 365 kV substation, results will run across northwest Missouri and reach the Missouri-Iowa border.
