Come May, Terry Kouba – the president of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company – will retire and be replaced by fellow company veteran Mayuri Farlinger.

Kouba served 42 years with the company, and leaves to enjoy retirement. As he steps away, though, the company will gain a fresher face at the helm. Farlinger, by contrast, first joined Alliant Energy as an intern in 2004, from which she has climbed the ranks to vice president of customer and community engagement in Iowa. Her experience has ranged from finance and regulatory operations to field engineering and customer renewables.

“May is an outstanding leader, and I am confident she and her team will continue to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers and communities across Iowa,” Lisa Barton, president and CEO of Alliant Energy, said. “Throughout her tenure, May has brought a solution-oriented approach that will serve her well as she leads the company to its next chapter of growth.”

May was elected to her new role by the Alliant Board of Directors.

When she takes over on May 1, 2024, Farlinger will gain accountability for the growth and performance of the company’s Iowa utility business. She will guide its economic development, community engagement and account management groups, while acting as a leader for regulatory activities and initiatives related to its electric and natural gas customers and point woman for directing daily service.

In addition to her presidential role, Farlinger will also serve as vice president of operations.

She first entered the industry with a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Iowa and an MBA from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.
