PSEG partners with Bidgely on energy efficiency program

PSEG Long Island announced Thursday it will partner with Bidgely in order to expand its energy efficiency solutions.

The company said in a press release that its expended partnership with Bidgely will provide an end-to-end energy efficiency solution that aligns with regulatory priorities while promoting energy savings and customer engagement. Under the new contract between the two companies, Bidgely will assume the management of PSEG Long Island’s Home Energy Report (HER) program, and bring to the company additional offerings for electric vehicle (EV) owner engagement, solar detection, load reduction and TOD rate support. Bidgely will also expand PSEG Long Island’s customer engagement program from 550,000 customers to 700,000.

“Bidgely has been an important partner in enriching the value of our AMI data and bolstering our customer engagement strategies for several years,” Lou Debrino, managing director and vice president of customer operations at PSEG Long Island, said. “As we now strive to achieve a decarbonized future, we recognize the added power of Bidgely’s AI-powered one-stop platform to address multiple initiatives, like time-of-use and home energy efficiency.”

Bidgely will also provide personalized TOD communications to Long Island residential customers that will help customers understand how their energy usage throughout the day corresponds to their monthly bill, including an itemized breakdown of usage by appliance categories, bill summaries and projections, high-usage alerts and EV charging optimization.

Officials said Bidgely customizes its HERs solution to accommodate those with distributed energy resources, like EVs and solar, which allows utilities to separate a customer’s EV charging from whole-home usage. This provides the company with a way to help customers distinguish between different consumption types so they can make impactful behavioral changes to reduce household energy use.

Bidgely’s work will help PSEG Long Island in its efforts to shift peak energy use to different times of the day. The behind-the-meter intelligence will help PSEG meet peak load capacity while reducing the need for substation and transformer upgrades. And, officials said, Bidgely’s disaggregation capabilities will help PSEG identify and target customers who need energy efficiency and heat pump systems.

“Energy efficiency and customer engagement programs are becoming one and the same, which makes fostering meaningful engagement between utilities and their customers increasingly important,” Abhay Gupta, CEO of Bidgely, said. “We applaud PSEG Long Island’s commitment to leveraging AI-powered tools that empower customers to save money, feel better about their energy use, and support grid stability.”
