Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois to develop $273M transmission project in Missouri

Chosen by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), the Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois (ATXI) recently announced it will develop a $273 million transmission project across northern Missouri.

ATXI is a subsidiary of the St. Louis-based Ameren Corporation, and on this endeavor, it will build and push outward from a new 345-kV substation and into a space ranging from DeKalb to Marion counties. It is a critical part of the multiyear, $10 billion portfolio of MISO projects known as the Long Range Transmission Plan (LRTP).

“We are proud to have won this vital project that will give Missourians a more resilient energy grid and boost reliability for millions of people,” Shawn Schukar, chairman and president of ATXI, said. “We plan to continue our track record of delivering cost-effective, high-value projects while incorporating robust input from our neighbors and doing everything we can to be respectful to impacted landowners.”

Shukar emphasized that by building out infrastructure projects like this – based on lower cost design plans – more funds are kept in-state, and will ultimately benefit local jobs, supplies and communities.

Similarly, MISO selected ATXI to develop another of its projects for the Northern Missouri Grid Transformation Program in October 2023, pushing to have it in-service by 2028.
