Advanced Microgrid Solutions (AMS) recently announced a partnership with Walmart Stores, Inc. to
deploy advanced energy storage systems in select Walmart stores in the United States.

Under the agreement, AMS will design, install and operate its Hybrid Electric Building technology in order to improve efficiency, create energy savings, and provide grid support to local utilities.

In the first phase of the project, AMS will install 40 megawatt hours (MWh) of advanced energy storage systems at 27 Walmart stores in Southern California. These systems will allow permanently reduce each store’s peak electricity demand and provide dispatchable grid support to Southern California Edison (SCE).

“Cost efficiency is the hallmark of the Walmart brand,” Mark Vanderhelm, vice president of Energy for Walmart, said. “Adding energy storage capabilities to our clean energy resources reduces the capacity
needed from the grid and is part of our commitment to increase reliance on renewable energy.”

Walmart has set a goal of powering 50 percent of their operations with renewable energy by 2025 and has installed onsite generation, including solar PV, at 350 of its stores.

“When it comes to sustainable and efficient energy management, Walmart sets the global standard,” AMS Chief Executive Officer Susan Kennedy said. “Walmart continues to demonstrate its visionary leadership by delivering high quality and low costs for its customers.”
