The Delilah I Solar Energy Center in Dallas, Texas will soon gain a new majority owner, ahead of its June start date: WEC Energy Group.

Under terms agreed, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based WEC will acquire 90 percent ownership of the 300 MW project, which was originally developed and built by Invenergy as part of a five-phase Samson & Delilah solar portfolio. Expected to begin commercial operation by the end of June, its power is already spoken for under a long-term power purchase agreement with a global automaker.

“The Delilah Solar project is an exciting addition to our Infrastructure business and highlights our continued investment in affordable, reliable and clean energy,” Gale Klappa, executive chairman of WEC, said. “This project will help one of the world’s largest automakers meet their clean energy goals for years to come.”

WEC’s investment should amount to approximately $459 million. The energy group also owns a majority interest in Samson I, another phase of the same project. This investment will be eligible for production tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.
