Gradually throughout June, new presidents will take over at a variety of FirstEnergy Corp. businesses, including its Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey state electric company businesses and its stand-alone transmission company.

An additional new face is expected at the helm of its combined West Virginia/Maryland division in the near term.

In the meantime, confirmed new executives include John Hawkins as president for Pennsylvania, Torrence Hinton as president for Ohio, Doug Mokoid as president for New Jersey and Mark Mroczynski for president of transmission. All will be responsible for implementing FirstEnergy’s new business structure and report directly to Wade Smith, president of FirstEnergy Utilities.

“This group of dynamic executives has the experience and knowledge to help our state and transmission businesses execute on our investment plan while elevating the customer experience and achieving successful financial and regulatory outcomes,” Smith said. “Their proven track records include driving financial and operational performance and accountability, a commitment to continuous improvement and the ability to lead organizations through change. They champion safety, transparency and financial discipline and model FirstEnergy’s core values and behaviors, which are foundational to FirstEnergy’s vision for the future.”

In Mokoid’s case, he will step in for the retiring Jim Fakult, who decided to depart after 37 years with the company. He will stay on through September, though, to help Mokoid transition into his new role. Mokoid will join FirstEnergy from Atlantic City Electric/Delmarva Power, where he has worked as vice president and region president for regulatory and legislative matters.

Hawkins, on the other hand, has worked for FirstEnergy since 2022, and has served as its vice president of operations support and distribution engineering since. Before that, he worked at Entergy Louisiana.

In Ohio, Hinton will pivot to his position following departure from WEC Energy Group, where he acts as president of its Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas companies. Until this year, he had worked with Peoples Gas since 1999.

Finally, Mroczynski is another FirstEnergy veteran, having served as acting vice president of operations for it over the past year. He first joined the company in 2004, and will now guide the strategic direction and operation of FirstEnergy Transmission, LLC (FET) assets including: American Transmission Systems, Inc. (ATSI), Mid-Atlantic Interstate Transmission (MAIT) and Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line Company (TrAILCo), along with assets owned by Keystone Appalachian Transmission Company (KATCo.) He will oversee profit and loss of the transmission business at large and direct its regulatory and policy strategy, while working with investors.
