The Louisiana Public Service Commission (PSC) recently signed off on a plan from Entergy Louisiana to add a massive 3 GW of economic solar power to its portfolio, a record for the state’s renewable figures.

As a result, Entergy will pursue a streamlined procurement and approval process in constructing several solar resources within Louisiana. The company pitched this as a major milestone, not just for the state, but for its own efforts to modernize and diversify its portfolio. To date, the company hosts around 230 MW of renewable resources, so a 3 GW influx will represent a more than 13-fold increase to its green offerings.

“This approval underscores our commitment to meeting operational and sustainability needs, driving economic development, and protecting the environment,” Phillip May, Entergy Louisiana president and CEO, said. “It’s a significant win for the future of our state. I want to thank everyone who helped see this proposal come to fruition, including our local officials and regulators.”

Entergy Louisiana first dipped its toe into the solar side of energy at scale in 2020, with the Capital Region Solar facility – the first utility-scale solar project approved by the Louisiana PSC. Now, the 3 GW additions will be on top of another approximately 225 MW of solar projects approved this January, meaning that when all is said and done, the company could eventually host more than 3,800 MW of renewable energy.
