Exelon Generation, Japan Atomic Power Company establish joint nuclear venture

Exelon Generation is partnering with Japan Atomic Power Company (JAPC) to create a joint venture,
JExel Nuclear, which will combine Exelon’s operational and safety expertise with Japanese reactor technologies.

JExel Nuclear will license and implement the Exelon Nuclear Management Model (ENMM) in nuclear power projects in various parts of world. The joint venture will provide full deployment of the ENMM or work to customize the model to project owners’ needs. JExel Nuclear will also offer advisory, operating
and maintenance management services to nuclear power plant developers and operators that employ
Japanese reactor technologies.

“This joint venture is a significant business development opportunity to license our nuclear operations expertise internationally alongside JAPC, which has been in operation for more than half a century,” Chris Crane, president and CEO of Exelon, said. “Together we will help other nuclear developers and operators around the globe create a new generation of even safer, more reliable and more efficient nuclear power plants.”

JExel’s first client is Horizon Nuclear Power, a Hitachi-owned company in the UK currently developing two advanced nuclear reactors at the Wylfa Newydd site in Wales.

Each company controls 50 percent of the joint venture with two board members each and experts seconded as needed.
