Entergy Mississippi to invest $95 million in grid upgrades

Entergy Mississippi recently announced that it plans to invest $95 million this year in grid upgrades and maintenance as part of its Bright Future plan.

The company plans to add new distribution and transmission lines, replace wooden poles with stronger composite material, upgrade copper conductors to aluminum and add capacity to circuits. Workers will also increase tree-trimming and other vegetation management efforts.

“A strong, reliable power grid is critical to our safety and way of life,” Robbin Jeter, Entergy Mississippi vice president of customer service, said. “Over the next few years, we’ll take steps to strengthen all parts of our grid to help reduce power outages.”

The improvements are intended to strengthen the system against storms and outages, physical threats and cyber-attacks.

“A strong, modern energy grid not only improves reliability, it helps create jobs and growth,” Jeter said. “With our rates well below the national average and among the lowest in the state, it’s an excellent time to invest in these projects.”

This year’s investment represents a $28.5 million increase over last year’s investment of $66.5 million for projects designed to increase and reliability of Entergy’s Mississippi’s energy grid.
