The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) recently released the initial comments it received from energy stakeholders regarding its NextGrid Utility of the Future Study.

In March, ICC invited energy stakeholders to provide input on the topics to be considered as part of the initiative and the selection an independent facilitator. The Commission received comments from more than 40 groups and individuals in response to the March resolution.

“The Commission extends its appreciation to all of the commenters for their interest and participation at
this early stage of the process,” ICC Executive Director Cholly Smith said. “We look forward to continued engagement and collaboration from a wide range of stakeholders as we move forward.”

NextGrid will be conducted over approximately 18 months and explore topics such as investment in smart grid technology, Illinois’ restructured energy market and the expansion of renewables and energy efficiency resulting from the recently passed Future Energy Jobs Act.

The ICC will lead and oversee the study with the assistance of an independent facilitator who will seek input from energy stakeholder on goals and guiding principles for the process.

Stakeholder comments can be found on the ICC’s website.
