U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) recently introduced the License Natural Gas (LNG) Now Act, which would remove restrictions on U.S. liquid natural gas (LNG) exports.

The bill would guarantee acceptance of export volume applications to the Department of Energy (DOE) for export and import of natural gas without delay, but would retain the Administration’s ability to limit export or import of natural gas during national emergencies or disasters and to nations unfriendly to the United States.

“The previous administration created hurdles that stalled LNG projects that benefit the economy, environment and Louisiana workers.” Cassidy said. “This legislation adds certainty to the approval process and brings investment, and better-paying jobs, to Louisiana.”

The bill would also direct the Secretary of Energy to submit a report to Congress regarding actions that could be taken by the U.S. Government to support increased exportation of natural gas as well as another report that identifies current regulations that impede the growth of the U.S natural gas market.

The American Petroleum Institute, Center for Liquefied Natural Gas, G2 LNG, LNG Allies, Natural Gas Supply Association have publicly endorsed the legislation.

“The Center for Liquefied Natural Gas welcomes any measures of support or creation of opportunity for U.S. LNG,” Charlie Riedl, executive director of the Center for Liquefied Natural Gas, said. “The U.S. LNG industry is in the midst of a critical opportunity that would cement the U.S. as a global energy superpower and certainty is key. We commend Senator Cassidy for his efforts and for his support of LNG and look forward to working with him in the future on this legislation and other LNG related issues.”
