Entergy Texas reports savings of $52 million as a result of joining MISO
Entergy Texas says its customers have saved $52 million over the last three years as a result of the company joining the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, Inc. (MISO), a regional transmission organization.
“Our membership in MISO has been a highly effective tool in helping us control costs and keep our rates low,” Sallie Rainer, president and CEO of Entergy Texas, said. “We believe our participation in MISO will continue to produce significant savings in the years ahead, helping keep energy costs well below the
national average so we can continue to help grow southeast Texas’ economy.”
MISO supports planning for new transmission facilities, manages power across the transmission grid and operates energy markets as well as markets for other products. The organization operates from Canada to
the Gulf of Mexico. MISO members share generation reserves across the organization’s area of operation.
Joining MISO provided more efficient dispatch of power plants on the grid, which enabled lower delivered energy costs, and allowed Entergy Texas to maintain fewer plants in reserve. These two factors led to the majority of their savings, Entergy Texas said.
