The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) was recently recognized for its work on improving energy codes through the 2017 National Leadership in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Award.
The International Code Council and Institute for Market Transformation chose PNNL for its efforts to bring “national attention to the cause of energy conservation and sustainability in the built environment,” awards committee chair Brian Bishop said in a letter.
The award will be presented at the International Code Council’s annual conference in September.
PNNL supports DOE’s Building Energy Codes Program by working with the industry to develop building energy codes, examining the effects of potential building code changes and providing technical assistance
and software tools to states that implement the codes.
According to PNNL studies, applying improved building codes could save the United States $126 billion and 12.82 quadrillion British Thermal Units of energy between 2010 and 2040.
Bing Liu manages PNNL’s building energy codes team. The award recognized PNNL staff members Rosemarie Bartlett, Mike Rosenberg, Reid Hart, Todd Taylor, Rahul Athalye, Pam Cole, David Conover, Mark Halverson, Vrushali, Mendon, Bob Schultz, Jian Zhang, Eric Richman, Yulong Xie and Yan Chen.
