Dominion Energy issues request for information on renewable power purchase options
Dominion Energy issued a request for information (RFI) Monday in order to find renewable energy purchase options in or near Virginia for the company.
The purchases would support the proposed CRG Rate Schedules that the company recently filed with the Virginia State Corporation Commission to support renewable energy generation. Through the program,
non-residential customers with peak measured of 1000 kilowatts or greater can choose to purchase 100 percent of their energy needs from renewable resources.
“In recent years, large energy users have become increasingly interested in renewable energy,” Katheryn Curtis, senior vice president of generation at Dominion Energy, said. “Similar to Dominion Energy, many
of the company’s largest users have set their own goals for vastly increasing their support of renewable energy. Additionally, many are working together and with their respective utilities to, among other things, expand their choices for buying renewable energy.”
Dominion Energy would prefer to purchase renewable energy resources within Virginia, but will consider resources within the rest of the PJM regional transmission organization as well.
Dominion Energy’s CRG Rate Schedules align with the goals of the Virginia Energy Plan to advance the development of renewable energy sources as well as the state’s goal to reduce carbon emissions while supporting clean energy initiatives.
