For the ninth consecutive year, the parent company of Rocky Mountain Power has been ranked among the top three renewable energy providers across two categories by the U.S. Department of Energy.
PacifiCorp, which owns both Rocky Mountain Power and Pacific Power, benefited from its voluntary Blue Sky renewable energy program by being dubbed the nation’s number two in number of customers buying renewable power and third in renewable energy sales overall. The program has been in operation for the better part of 20 years, and in that time has garnered more than 113,000 participants.
“When customers enroll in Blue Sky, Rocky Mountain Power buys renewable energy certificates on their behalf from renewable energy sources,” Renewable Energy Manager for Rocky Mountain Power Keven Hoopiiaina said. “Renewable energy generation can then help to offset the need to produce electricity from other, nonrenewable sources, which benefits the environment.”
Rocky Mountain Power credits the program’s participants for helping fund 244 community-based renewable energy projects. The Renewable Energy Laboratory of the DOE has been releasing annual Top 10 lists for programs like Blue Sky since 2000.
