Three companies joined the Solar Energy Industries Association’s (SEIA) board of directors on Thursday, a move that SEIA CEO Ross Hopper described as sign of broad support for the “fight for the industry’s future.”

New additions to SEIA’s board include Tradewind Energy, Inc., and DEPCOM Power, both developers of utility-scale solar projects, and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., a national general contractor.

“At a time when the solar industry is both enjoying significant growth and facing a trade challenge, DEPCOM, McCarthy and Tradewind Energy are making an important contribution to the whole industry,
and we are thrilled to have them on board,” Hopper said, referencing the Section 201 trade petition in which Suniva requested tariffs on crystalline-silicon solar product imports.

Rob Freeman, the CEO of the Kansas City-based Tradewind Energy, Inc., said the work of SEIA is “more critical than ever before to the continued success of the solar industry.”

Jim Lamon, the CEO and founder of DEPCOM Power, said the company’s goal is to work with SEIA to promote “low-cost, utility-scale PV solar” that helps achieve American energy independence.

“We also believe that by being the lowest cost provider of power, we can supplement coal and natural gas on the U.S. grid, thereby helping achieve trade balance — increased export of coal and natural-gas displaced due to lower cost solar — and U.S. full employment,” Lamon said.

Justin Kelton, the president of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., said that he was pleased that company representative Scott Canada would be joining SEIA’s board of directors.

“His years of experience working in the solar industry will undoubtedly support the organization’s strong leadership role during this challenging regulatory time, while also serving to unite the many voices of our growing industry,” Kelton said.
