Wise receives 2016-2017 National Petroleum Council appointment

U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest J. Moniz offered an appointment on Wednesday to the 2016-2017 National Petroleum Council to Commissioner Stan Wise, who has served on the Georgia Public Service Commission since 1994.

“I truly appreciate the trust and confidence that Secretary Moniz has shown in me by this appointment to the council,” Wise said. “It is vitally important that the views of the states are represented at the national level on oil and natural gas issues. This appointment especially fits in well with my long time interest in natural gas issues.”

The council, founded in 1946 by President Truman, is a self-funded body that draws from all sectors of the oil and gas industry to advise the Secretary of Energy, providing advice, information and recommendations relating to the oil and gas industry and related interests.

“I appreciate your willingness to devote time and energy to the council and I look forward to working with you to advance our common goals,” Moniz said in his letter appointing Wise to the council. “The work of the council is important to the department and the nation.”

Wise will represent the interests of states in his role on the council as public policy is crafted.
