AEP Ohio announces $30 million investment into electric transmission grid for Franklin, Licking counties

A $30 million investment to the electric transmission grid in northern Franklin and Licking counties in Ohio was recently announced by American Electric Power (AEP) Ohio and the AEP Ohio Transmission Company, Inc.

The project, which uses the AEP-developed breakthrough overhead line design (BOLD), will allow for more energy to be delivered with a smaller environmental footprint by utilizing a smaller structure height and modernized design.

AEP is offering the public a chance to learn more about the project by inviting people to attend a project
open house at the New Albany Methodist Church in New Albany, Ohio on Sept. 5 at 5:30 PM.

The open house will feature a meet-and-greet with project representatives, where the public can offer input and ask questions to learn more.

“It is exciting to bring the latest and greatest technology in the electric transmission industry to Ohio,” Julie Sloat, president and CEO of AEP Ohio, said. “Our engineers are among the best in the business. We look to continuously develop new technologies and improve existing ones to transmit more reliable power and lower costs.”

According to AEP, project construction will begin in early 2018 and includes replacing 6.5 miles of existing 345-kilovolt transmission lines with the new 345-kilovolt and 138-kilovolt transmission lines. Additionally, existing wooden structures will be replaced with new BOLD structures.

The project is expected to be completed approximately one year after construction begins.
