A team of 20 Alabama Power employees recently traveled to Texas, bringing with them specialized vehicles and equipment, to help Houston-based CenterPoint Energy restore power in the region.

The personnel and equipment come from Alabama Power’s Transmission and Environmental Affairs organizations based in the Birmingham and Mobile areas.

“We are glad that we can help assist CenterPoint Energy and the people of Houston who are suffering from this disaster,” Pam Boyd, Power Delivery Services general manager, said.

The team brought with them two airboats, two Marsh Master track vehicles and jon boats.

CenterPoint Energy has restored power to more than 713,000 customers but flooding and wet conditions have impeded progress in some areas.

Southern Company, of which Alabama Power is a subsidiary, has pledged $100,000 to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and established a donation-matching program for employees and retirees.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Houston and everyone along the Gulf Coast where Harvey has had such a terrible impact,” Markell Heilbron, Environmental Affairs general manager, said.
