Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) staff members and commissioners will hold three public hearings in September to obtain public comment on developing Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) parameters.
Utilities will follow the IRP structure in their filings with the state. Utilities use IRPs to plan how they will meet electricity demand in their service areas. The plans include evaluations of energy waste reduction, supply sufficiency, demand response, the impact of state and federal environmental regulations and other considerations.
The state’s new energy laws, which went into effect in April, require the IRPs.
The MPSC Commissioners will join staff at one of three public hearings in Livonia on Sept. 6, Grand Rapids on Sept. 13, and Marquette, Michigan on Sept. 19.
Interested parties can obtain a draft plan, related information, and documents online. In addition to comments at the meetings, comments may be submitted by mail or electronically. The deadline for comments is Oct. 6, and the deadline for replies to comments is Oct. 20.
