American Petroleum Institute (API) President and CEO Jack Gerard applauded President Donald Trump’s comments on tax reform and economic policy made during a recent speech at a North Dakota oil refinery.

In his speech, President Trump outlined a tax reform that he said would include significant tax cuts for individuals and businesses.

“Our industry is committed to securing our critical energy infrastructure system, which has provided multiple supply lines and paths to help offset supply disruptions,” Gerard said. “It’s important that we have public policies that support additions and improvements to our energy infrastructure to help mitigate the impacts of one region. The industry’s ability to build and maintain infrastructure across the country to provide safe access to vital energy resources will benefit U.S. consumers, manufacturers, and businesses.”

Gerard noted that the petroleum industry invests billions of dollars in the U.S. economy and said that private investment in energy infrastructure could surpass $1.3 trillion and support one million jobs each year through 2035.

“We welcome the President’s commitment to pro-growth tax reform, and look forward to working with the administration and Congress on continuing our nation’s energy leadership,” Gerard said. “Pro-growth tax reform and economic policies can further strengthen our energy infrastructure and benefit consumers.”
