Indiana Michigan Power announces electric transmission system upgrades for East Central Indiana

Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), an American Electric Power company, recently announced plans for a $48 million the electric transmission system project to improve service reliability in Delaware and Madison Counties in East Central Indiana.

The Muncie-Anderson Transmission Line Rebuild Project includes rebuilding approximately 21 miles of double-circuit 138-kilovolt transmission line and retiring about seven miles of existing transmission line. The project is designed to reduce the frequency and duration of power outages.

Most of the 21-mile long transmission line will be rebuilt in its current location, but some existing easements will also be updated and supplemented In limited areas, alternative study segments have been proposed for re-routes that are being considered and assessed for new construction.

I&M will hold an open house at which attendees can review maps and speak with company representatives. The company is encouraging landowners to attend the open house and provide feedback on the project and the alternative study segments to help determine the proposed final line route.

The company expects to begin construction in fall 2018 and complete the project by spring 2020.
