Georgia Power recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of PowerTOWN, an education program aimed at providing electrical safety information to students, youth groups, emergency personnel, contractors, and adults throughout the state of Georgia.
“The PowerTOWN electrical safety program, due to engaging presentations and materials, has been extremely successful in informing thousands about the importance of electrical safety and how to respond in a variety of situations around electricity,” Georgia Power Project Manager Anthony Farris said. “As part of our commitment to the community, the program continues to serve as an effective safety resource.”
Developed to help provide information on how to stay safe in real life scenarios such as downed power lines, PowerTOWN’s demonstrations feature certified presenters that share a number of safety tips built around a model town where the scenarios can be easily explained.
Since its launch in 1991, the program has progressed to include online materials for students and educators as well as year-round demonstrations of sage electric power usage through newly-developed games and animated videos.
More recently, the expanded program was extended to include Spanish language material and presentations at seasonal events such as the Georgia Mountain Fair and the Sunbelt Agricultural Expo in Moultrie, Georgia.
