CMS Energy to purchase 24-megawatt Lansing solar project

CMS Energy announced Tuesday that its subsidiary, CMS Enterprises, would purchase Delta Solar, a two-part 24-megawatt (MW) solar project currently under construction near Lansing, Michigan.

The project, which is located on about 190 acres in Delta Township in Eaton County, will provide energy to the Lansing Board of Water & Light through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

“We are committed to meeting Michigan’s energy needs with reliable and increasingly clean sources of energy, and we are pleased to take ownership of a project that will benefit homes and businesses in our state’s capital region,” Patti Poppe, president and CEO of CMS Energy, said.

The Delta Solar project consists of two phases. The Vermont-based firm groSolar, a subsidiary of EDF Renewable Energy, is currently conducting construction and development on the project.

“There is a growing interest in developing clean, renewable energy sources, and CMS Energy is well positioned to respond,” Poppe said. “We expect Delta Solar to be a visible example of our commitment to the planet and the communities we serve in Michigan.”

Delta Solar is expected to be operational by summer 2018.
