ExxonMobil breaks ground on research facility expansion in Clinton, New Jersey

ExxonMobil recently announced that it has broken ground on an expansion of its research facility in Clinton, New Jersey.

Home to the company’s process research and development programs, the expansion will include areas to advance algae biofuel and carbon capture technologies.

“Our research addresses key elements of the dual challenge we currently face, which means supplying energy for modern life and improving living standards while minimizing impacts on the environment, including the risks of climate change,” Vijay Swarup, ExxonMobil’s vice president of research and development, said.

Swarup added that by consolidating its research capabilities under one roof and fully leveraging the expertise in all of its departments, ExxonMobil hopes to develop scalable solutions that drive both long-term shareholder and societal value.

The expanded facility will also be home to a new engine testing center, a lubricant research and development blend plant, and will feature enhancements to existing facilities to accommodate employees that will be relocated from an existing facility in nearby Paulsboro, New Jersey.

“The expansion of our New Jersey research and engineering center will improve collaboration across our organization and enhance our ability to accelerate breakthroughs in new and emerging technologies,” Bruce March, president of ExxonMobil’s Research and Engineering Company, said.
